Reserve Yearling Model
Cadillac's Hot Shot was rightfully named upon his arrival 4/12/97, son of Sun Dust's Cadillac Man & Root Beer's Honeysuckle Rose. We knew he was something special -- he was born on Jimmy's birthday! Jim & Judy McNail were reluctant to sell him, but we made the deal and took possession of him as a weanling after the 1997 Show & Celebration last September. His first trailer ride was less than a mile which he traveled standing up on his back legs with his front legs in the manger. "Hot Shot" is a bit headstrong!
We entered him in the Breeders Cup with great plans to show "Hot Shot" all season long and head into the SHOW OF SHOWS with an experienced model horse. Medic al situations kept us occupied throughout the spring & summer, ending with my husband's surgery the end of July. We had canceled our plans to show in Lebanon. Thanks to Jim & Judy McNail, we were able to make the curtain call. With their encouragement, coaching, support and hard work, "Hot Shot" made his show debut!
August was a month of learning for all of us! "Hot Shot" took his first road trip, he'd never been away from home. He got his first bath, had his hair and hooves done, and entered his first horse show - all in the same day! What a day that was! We'll all remember with joy and excitement, the moment the announcer called out number 156 as Reserve National Champion. We always knew he was special, but it's a great feeling to realize everyone else knows too!
Thanks to everyone who made the 1998 National Breeders Cup Show such a success. A special thanks to our mentors, Jim & Judy McNail.
