The 2nd Annual Breeders Cup is now in the
history books of the Missouri Fox Trotters. Dale Esther, President of NBC, opened the show
each night carrying the United States flag. This year’s Breeders Cup had the
largest purse in the history of our breed with almost $96,000 given away in money and
prizes. Prizes were donated by our great sponsors. The first place Open Breeders
Cup and Amateur Breeders Cup winners received the use of a Featherlite Trailer
for one year. These beautiful trailers were presented by : Mr. Jim Mann, dealer for Featherlite
Trailers, and owner of Southeast Mo Trailer Sales in Poplar Bluff, Mo. |
The reserve winners of both Open and Amateur Breeder Cup received a Missouri Fox
Trotter Saddle from Ortho-Flex Saddles located at Nevada, Mo. and
was presented by Mr. Len Brown. The barrel racing classes drew a large number of entries
with added prize money given by Purina Mill, Inc. Additional prizes for
winners included 50 - 100 lbs of feed with a drawing for 500 lbs of Purina feed given to a
lucky winner from those in attendance...all total, a trailer load of feed was given away!
The three day show went smoothly due to the
efforts of many people who were willing to give their time and efforts (meaning long
hours), including the exhibitors who showed their horses in front of large audiences each
night with Saturday night being filled almost to capacity.
The Lebanon area was very supportive in
helping make this show a success. We would like to thank the local spectators who not only
enjoyed the beautiful Cowan Civic Center and it’s air conditioning, but got to see
very competitive horses and exhibitors.
A "Presentation of Fox Trotters" was help during a luncheon for the Lebanon Arts Guild on Saturday
morning. Janet Esther presented our breed from the first foxtrotters to the present day
show horse. Great detail was given as to how and when the Fox Trotting Horse came into

Note of Appreciation
A great big thanks to each and everyone that worked so hard to make the Breeders Cup very
successful. All the board members spent long hours on this project and several volunteers
worked at numerous jobs during the show.
